One of the most striking aspects of this début CD by the multinational PL4 is the effort and resourcefulness which the musicians have invested in overcoming the limitations normally inherent in a horn plus rhythm group. This is predominantly lyrical, reflective and melodic jazz played by four highly accomplished musicians who, after working together for three years, have developed an impressive degree of cohesion and compatibility. One vital element which creates excitement and sustains listener interest is the considerable amount of unpredictability incorporated into the arrangements. A most impressive and distinctive album.
